A nightmare is the only way to describe what authorities found behind closed doors at a home in Casa Grande, Arizona. Members of the Casa Grande Police Department were called to a home for a “citizen requested civil-standby.” Police could not have imagined what they were about to face as they pulled their patrol cars up to the property.

As officers facilitated a conversation with Michael Anthony Mills and Lila Kaye Crawford, they found six dead dogs wrapped in towels and shirts on the hood of someone’s car. Animal Control was dispatched and officers continued their search of the area. They found another dead dog in a dumpster behind the home and the skeleton of a dog located just outside the residence.

Crawford told officers she had another 20 dogs inside, but on inspection of the 700-square foot residence, they found an additional 90 dogs. Crawford voluntarily relinquished the animals who were sent to the City of Casa Grande Animal Care and Adoption Center for evaluation, documentation, photographs, and examinations by a veterinarian.
