First-Ever Elephant Given Prosthetic Leg After Losing Leg To Landmine

Meet Mosha the special elephant who made history by being the first-ever elephant to be fitted with an effective and functional prosthetic leg.

She was only 7 months young when she, unfortunately, lost her leg to a landmine. This put immense pressure on her spine and her other three limbs.

Mosha is a permanent inhabitant of the Friends of the Asian Elephant Foundation (FAE) in Thailand, and this is where she received her new leg.

The organization are focused on designing and creating moulds to accommodate elephants who are still growing.

- Advertisement -

When she is without her leg, she can only do things like lean against a wall or rails to help relieve some pressure.

She is also friends with another resident who lives at the FAE hospital called Motola, she also has a prosthetic leg and was right behind Mosha as the second-ever elephant to receive one.

Sadly, Matola is not as comfortable as Mosha is with her new leg, this is because of her growth patterns.
