Lonely baby deer mistakes logger for her mom and warms hearts

That’s adorable, and the guy did the right thing, too! Mama deer sometimes leave their babies in people’s yards or close by humans because they know other predators don’t like us, so it’s best to just leave ’em where you found them. What little cuties!

So, for anyone who’s confused: baby deer get left alone by their mothers all the time. Their coat is built to blend in, so it’s the mother’s job to make sure they’re in a safe place before going off to forage or whatever they do, then they come back. The fawns do not have instincts to run, because they have to stay in one place so the mother can find them.

I found an abandoned baby deer on the road one day a few years ago. That deer has lived with me for 4 years now and he’s never been better. I get some weird looks though because nobody expects somebody to have a deer with them. Now just to clarify: The mother completely abandoned the deer.
