Guy Tells Sheriff He Can’t Afford To Keep His Dog’s Weight At Healthy Level

If someone harms an animal in Brevard County, Florida, Sheriff Wayne Ivey has a message to share.
“I hate to sound like a broken record but once again let me be very clear…if you harm an animal in Brevard County I am personally going to walk your butt into our jail and slam the door shut in your face,” he posted on Facebook.
Sheriff Ivey along with Corporal Chris Sauro of the Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit made good on that promise. The two clutched the arms of Ronald Peacock and walked him into the county jail.
Peacock was arrested after admitting he failed to provide proper nutrition and veterinary care for his mixed-breed dog named Thor. The dog was incredibly emaciated when police arrived at Peacock’s residence the first time. They gave him a citation and ordered him to take Thor to a vet within 48 hours.
When police returned to check on Thor 48 hours later, Peacock admitted the dog only got heartworm medication and vaccines. He said he could not afford treatment or food to get Thor’s weight up to a healthy level.
As a result, Thor was removed from the premises and determined to be suffering from severe neglect by a veterinarian. Charges against Peacock include one count of animal cruelty and “one count of resisting arrest without violence for attempting to flee our deputy at the time of his arrest.”
He is in jail and being held on a $2,500 bond. Thor will never be in Peacock’s care again, as he is being nursed back to health. Thank you to everyone involved in saving Thor’s life!
