A good Samaritan is being credited with saving the life of an abandoned dog in the most unusual location. The dog is safe and sound now in the care of the Humane Society of Mercer County in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, but the situation could have been a lot different had kind soul not been in the right place at the right time.

A passerby at the Pine Township Fire Station noticed a beautiful female Golden Retriever all alone. She was tied up to the fire station’s door, so the person then submitted an anonymous tip through The Herald Newspaper’s “submit a news tip” feature on their website. Thankfully, the assistant editor for graphics, John Zavinski, saw the message shortly after it came in.

The note read, “There is a Golden retriever tethered to the back door of the Pine Township fire department. She has a note on her collar asking for help.”

Zavinski called 911 to report the issue who then got him in touch with the state police. The fire department was able to help the dog, who was then transported to the local humane society. The dog’s name is Marley and she is seven years old. The note was inside a plastic bag which was tied around the dog’s neck. The note also said Marley had Lyme disease. Through online resources, the dog’s breeder was located who then contacted Marley’s owner. She apparently told them she had hardships and could no longer care for her.

She was placed with a foster family who fell in love with Marley and decided to adopt her. Marley’s owner will be asked for restitution for vet bills, but it is going to be difficult for her to repay the bills in a timely fashion. I Love My Dog reminds our readers to get in touch with local animal control or a local rescue if you can no longer care for your pets. It is never a viable option to abandon or dump an innocent animal, as the outcome will likely be harm, abuse, death, or all three.
