Dog Is Abused, Starved And Neglected Before Being Thrown Out On The Streets
The Cape Coral Animal Shelter received a desperate call from an animal control in a neighboring rural county regarding a sickly abused “puppy” named Billy.
The shelter staff readily agreed to look after the baby who needed immediate medical attention, only to realize that Billy was no puppy – but a 5-year-old dog suffering from grave and deliberately induced emaciation.

Billy’s protruding bones and the multiple scars littered across his body suggested that he had a horrible existence before rescue. It didn’t take the workers long to understand that he was undernourished and mistreated all his life, which ultimately stunted his growth. However, no one knew the exact scale of abuse he endured, as there was a huge amount of uncertainty prevailing over his past origins.
While Billy was extremely skittish when he first came to the shelter, he soon began wagging his tail as he realized the workers were diligently caring for him. With controlled nutritious meals and timely sleep, he began gaining weight at a steady rate. Over the next few weeks, he gained 20 lbs and blossomed into the most loving and happy-go-lucky boy!
The shelter likes to call Billy their “Christmas miracle”, as he is finally ready to be adopted now! His skin is still healing but he is thriving with his newfound spark for life. His caretakers recommend an active family for him because he loves to play and have fun. However, he is still learning to be comfortable in company of other dogs (this is likely because he had to fight for food all his life).
