Neglected Wolf Dog Bought Off Craigslist Was Forced To Stay In A Tiny Cage In A Dorm Room
One college student is in hot water after authorities discovered he was keeping a dog inside his tiny dorm room. The student claims to have bought the animal off of Craigslist. The wolf dog was forced to live in a tiny cage with little care and barely enough food to survive.
As the rumors swirled that the student was hiding an animal, the student went to great lengths to avoid authorities. After months of tracking the student down, the dog was finally able to be rescued.
The dog was taken under the care of Julia Di Sieno, the executive director and cofounder of California’s Animal Rescue Team (A.R.T.), and the animal lover was shocked to find what kind of shape the animal was in.
“According to the 20-year-old that owned Rex at the time, he claims that he purchased Rex on Craigslist, which is really shady,” Di Sieno told The Dodo. “You just don’t advertise animals on Craigslist, ever. He was not forthcoming with any information.”
Di Sieno further explained that the dog was in terrible shape and it was obvious it was being mistreated.
“He was neglecting the animal by keeping him in a confined, cramped crate,” Di Sieno said. “The dog was only 42 pounds when his normal weight should have been 90 pounds.”
However, he was not your average dog — he was a high content wolf dog, which means he is more wolf than dog and is physically very similar to a full wolf.
After much negotiations, Di Sieno was able to take the wolf dog into her home. She said the dog immediately became part of the family. She was shocked that the dog was so caring even after its past. Di Sieno explains that wolf dogs need a certain type of care and plenty of activity since they are more like wolves than dogs. It is because of this that many wolves get abandoned.
“The reason for that is because wolves are not dogs, and wolf dogs are not dogs,” Proulx said. “People tend to give them up because they’re not easy pets.”
Nicknamed Rex, the dog was finally able to find the perfect forever home with a family that could give him everything he deserved.
