Dog Refuses To Move From Her Spot, Rescuers Cry When They See Body Next To Her

The story of Hachika the homeless dog is utterly heartbreaking. Hachika used to live with her bonded doggie mate in a stretch of desert around Northern California. Despite their hard lives, the two dogs were happy to have each other’s comforting company. But fate took a nasty turn and Hachika’s friend passed away in the middle of the desert, according to ilovemydogsomuch.

Poor Hachika knew something was wrong with her friend who just wouldn’t wake up. She stood vigil by her friend’s dead body day and night thinking that the unresponsive dog would spring to life any second. Hachika was in denial about her best friend’s death, but she acknowledged the bitter truth when she witnessed the corpse withering away gradually.

But even after the painful realization, Hachika didn’t leave the corpse. The grieving dog “stood” by her friend and watched over her with devotion despite the scorching desert heat. By the time a rescue called “No Kill Kern” heard about Hachika, 2 months had passed!

For several days, the rescuers met with disappointment as Hachika refused to leave the spot come with them. After some heavy coaxing, they were able to convince the heartbroken dog to leave the decaying remains of her friend and follow them for a new life. Later, the rescuers respectfully cremated her dead friend and put some of her ashes in Hachika’s collar locket. That way, she can remember her forever!

Hachika took some time to warm up to the rescuers, but she eventually embraced them with an open heart. After months of rehab, Hachika has blossomed into the sweetest girl in her new home, where her doggie siblings are helping her move on in a healthy way. Hachika’s unwavering devotion and loyalty toward her best friend has left our hearts heavy.
