Man Put Pup Inside Barrel Hoping He’d Drown But There Was A Hole At The Bottom

When an animal rescuer was helping an abandoned puppy nearby, he received a call about cries coming from a greenhouse. The greenhouse workers looked everywhere for what they thought was a puppy crying for help but they had no success in finding him. Takis, who is known for his tireless rescue efforts, drove straight over. He and his assistant heard the puppy crying and were able to track down where the little yelps were coming from.

Inside a huge blue barrel was a tiny helpless puppy. He was soaked from a recent rainstorm. He was so small and afraid. Whoever left this tiny soul here was beyond heartless. Takis and his assistant wanted to help him but they knew he was afraid. He told his assistant to put gloves on in case the puppy lashed out. She reached inside the barrel to grab him.

The terrified puppy didn’t know how to respond. He was in shock. He was cold and likely very hungry. He had no idea if these humans were going to harm him or help him. He understandably fought the rescuer and bit her gloves. Takis hated seeing the puppy so scared but understood this was normal behavior.

The little one was put inside the car. They only had one crate and the puppy from their first call was already inside of it. She did not want company. As soon as the new puppy was put inside, she had a lot to say. But thankfully she didn’t lash out. She was likely afraid too.

Both puppies were brought back to the shelter. They were dried off while one of the rescuers comforted them with soft words and gentle pets. Despite how gentle she was, both puppies were terrified. The puppy rescued from the barrel stuck his little face into the corner and refused to even look at Takis or the other rescuer. Whatever this poor pup had been through had seriously traumatized him.

The pup was so terrified that he tried to dig his way out of the tiny space. Takis kept saying to him that it’ll be okay and they were trying to warm him up but of course, he wasn’t convinced. He only knew cruelty, not love. This broke their hearts again but Takis had seen this so many times. He had faith that he could help the puppy and gain his trust. It would take time but surely this little one was worth the effort.

Soon the other puppy started to understand that these kind humans were not going to hurt her and she was uncertain but not as terrified as the other puppy. Amazingly, she kept looking at her new mate, as if she wanted to do something to help him as well. Even though she gave him a bit of grief for sharing that crate in the car, she now felt compassion for him. Dogs truly are incredible.

The puppies earned their names: Alpha and Zeta. Once they were calm and warm, they snuggled into one another and fell asleep. While they didn’t trust humans just yet, they bonded to one another. They kept each other warm and comfortable. This was a big step towards becoming more confident. They had each other and that’s what’s most important.

In impoverished parts of the world, it is so hard to help animals.
