We often think of a dog as living a carefree life but for one pooch named Hope, life took an unfortunate turn. The good news is, it ended well.

For about two hours on Thursday, Hope was stuck in an air conditioning vent at a downtown Orlando home.

“The dog sitter came up to us and said ‘Hey I just found this dog I’m watching down in this air vent,’” firefighter Jimmy Reyes said.

Fortunately, neighbors were able to hear the cries of the dog and called 911. It wasn’t long before Orlando Fire Department’s Tower 1 B-shift would be on the case. They rushed to the scene and found Hope’s head stuck in an upward position after the grate had given way.

“The owners were out of town and they had two dog sitters come. One came at 8 a.m. and everything was fine, both dogs were there. The other one came at 11 and one of the dogs was missing,” Reyes said.

The firefighters listened for the dog’s faint barks to determine where she was and where they should start looking.

Precise cuts were made to the ductwork and eventually, Hope was set free from her predicament.

“We just took a utility knife to the ductwork and kind of just cut in pieces and made sure we weren’t cutting the dog,” Reyes said.

Pictures were posted that showed the dog was a little ruffled but she was hanging out near the water bowl with one of her rescuers. It doesn’t appear as if she was injured.
