It is never a good idea to abandon a dog and hope that he or she survives on his own. Sadly, hateful and uncaring people turn their loving pets loose on the streets all the time. A recent case of canine abandonment that is making headlines involves a beautiful Golden Retriever mix who was found chained to a bench in Mexico. Next to the dog was a note with a rock on top of it so it would not blow away.

The pup was unable to move and passersby just stared at the helpless animal. Finally, Marcela Goldberg received a message about the dog in need and rushed to the scene along with fellow rescuer, Azul Galindo. They saw the dog and next to him, their hearts broke as they read the note, which was written in Spanish.

In English, the note translates to, “It hurts a lot to leave my dog here but I made the decision of leaving him because my family used to mistreat him and it would always hurt me to see him in that condition. If you’re reading this and your heart wavers, please adopt him and take good care of him. If not, please leave this note in its place. That way others can read it and adopt him. Thank you.”

According to PEOPLE, Goldberg said the dog was in good shape but had no food or water. Neighbors tried to help the dog, but they had to use a long stick to give him food and water because he was “very nervous and trying to bite anybody approaching.” The dog has since been named Boston. Since freeing him from the bench, Boston suddenly perked up and his entire demeanor changed. He has since been renamed to Max, and he will never be abandoned again.

On their Facebook page, Mascota Coyoacan wrote, “In the wake of the Boston case, many people applied for adoption. We can only choose one, but we have many puppies looking for homes. If you can open your heart to another, we’ll thank you immensely. Their stories are equally sad but less media.”
