Pregnant Pig Flees Industrial Farm To Give Birth To Her Litter Safely

A mother’s love can be the most powerful thing in nature. When it comes to supporting their children, animals are amazing, and they will automatically do what is right to safeguard them.

That was the case lately after a female pig broke free from a farm in the hopes of saving her litter — and it turned out to be the best move she could have made.

Anna Aston, a dog walker from Nottinghamshire, England, was going through the woods when she came upon an uncommon sight: a pig feeding a litter of newborn piglets.

Matilda was the pig’s name. The rescuers understood she needed assistance, but they couldn’t face the thought of her being returned to the farm. Instead, they started a campaign to free Matilda and her children and bring them to a safe haven.

Thankfully, the campaign was successful, and Matilda and her offspring are now in the care of Surge Sanctuary after the farmer consented to relinquish the pig family.

Sadly, despite the best efforts to preserve him, one of the piglets died owing to a hernia, a frequent ailment in young piglets.

Matilda and her other eight babies, on the other hand, are in wonderful health and living their best lives.

“Matilda maintains her routine of feeding the babies, resting, and exploring the sanctuary, taking a mud bath, grazing, and saying hi to the other pigs and cows before returning for another feed,” the rescue noted.
