12 Years After Surrendering One-Eyed Pit Bull, Family Gets Strange Phone Call

Sherrie Smith had to make an agonizing decision about her beloved dog, Zoe. Smith surrendered her adorable one-eyed Pit Bull mix when the pooch was just a year old. The reason for the surrender is because Smith had to move and was unable to find pet-friendly housing. She wasn’t about to dump her dog off at a shelter, as Smith and her family loved Zoe very much, writes ilovemydogsomuch.

Re-homing Zoe was one of the hardest things Smith ever did, but she made sure to place her with a good family who would take care of the dog. As the years went by, Smith and the family lost touch, but Zoe remained on her mind. She and her family always talked about the dog and hoped she was doing okay. One day, Smith and her daughter, Ashley, received an unexpected phone call.

“I was working and suddenly my phone rang and it said Humane Society and right away, I just had this feeling that it was about Zoe,” Sherrie said.

It was a member of the Hawaii Humane Society and she told Smith they had Ashley in their care. A microchip scan traced back to Smith’s contact information. She could not believe her ears, but she wanted the dog back right away. They found out the family who adopted Zoe 12 years earlier had to re-home her because they were moving and couldn’t find dog-friendly housing.

Smith’s landlord made an exception and allowed Zoe to live with her original family at their home in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is now 14 years old, and she finally found her way back to where she belongs. Press play on the video below to see the heartwarming reunion.
