A 12-year-old boy left a Pit Bull puppy outside an animal shelter in a box with a stuffed toy and a heartbreaking note. In the letter, the young child explains that his father was beating the puppy so he was giving the puppy up to protect him and to give him a chance at a better life.
The dog rescue group Refugio Xollin shared a photo of the note and the puppy on Facebook:
“My name is Andrés and I am 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave my dog in your hands, hiding it from my dad because he is thinking about selling him. But he mistreats and kicks him. One day he kicked him so hard that he hurt his tail. I hope you can help and take care of him…I left him a stuffed animal so he won’t forget me.” [Translated]
The rescue, which is located in Michoacan, Mexico, is now caring for the puppy they named Rene and said that he will be available for adoption when he recovers.
They also shared that since the story was posted, the rescue has been flooded with adoption offers. The rescue says that Rene is recovering well and wants potential adopters to know that they have 120 other deserving dogs looking for loving homes.
