Earlier in September, Shawnesse Jackson’s son told her about a stray puppy who needed help. A volunteer for a rescue group, she hadn’t intended to foster, having three dogs of her own already. But when no one else was able to help, her family opened their home to the starving, sick pup.
“This is Bart and this is just the beginning of his story.”
“I am a volunteer with a local rescue group, doing marketing, fundraising and grant research. We have 3 amazing fur babies of our own and decided fostering wasn’t an option for us.
“However, last week our son called from work to tell us about this poor puppy who was hanging around looking for food and attention. It looked like he had pretty severe manage and was emaciated.
“We are a very small rescue group and unfortunately no one had space available, so we decided to do what we could. We couldn’t bear the idea of leaving him.
“So, our son brought Bart home and my husband built a make-shift pen until we could do something more. Because of the suspected mange we had to keep him isolated.”
“A couple of days later, I was able to get Bart to the vet and we were told that he did in fact have demodectic and sarcoptic mange, as well as yeast and fungal infections!
“He has since been bathed, dipped, medicated, vaccinated, fed, loved and played with! He is very social, craves attention and doesn’t have an ounce of aggression in him! I cannot fathom how or why someone would do this to such a loving being.
“He has a long road ahead of him, but I know that someday soon he will look as beautiful as his personality.”
“Bart will most certainly find a wonderful home and family to call his own (and if all works out, we hope that it will be our family)!”

Shawnesse sent an update 4 months later on February 5th. Shawnesse wanted to let everyone know how Bart is doing.
She wrote:
“After 8 weeks, Bart has finished all of his medications, his coat has grown back nicely, his ears now stand straight up and he LOVES to play fetch with his tennis ball!”
“He appears to be a shepherd/terrier mix. And he is officially available for adoption! We had hoped to keep him with us, but our other pups weren’t in agreement. We are now looking to find him a safe, loving home.”
